| I didn’t know it at the time, but it all started way back in 1986. I was in 3rd grade and my passion for plants unfolded with my bargain purchase of a houseplant from our parish festival. At the days end, I bought out all of the remaining plants for $1.00 and my hobby began. Combining my love of architecture and plants, I got my first job working at a local garden center when I was 15. My mom had to drive me to work my first week because I wasn’t old enough to drive. 3 years later I decided to further my education by attending Central Lakes College in Brainerd MN. I graduate 2 years later with an A.A.S. degree in horticulture, a diploma in landscape technology and the determination to own my own business. Scenic Specialties was born on December 1st 1996 in my small college apartment. Our official headquarters at the time were located at Thomsens Greenhouse and Garden Center. We started as a small 2 person, residential landscape design and installation company before opening our first retail store called “The Pond Shop” in 1999. In September of 2001, we moved our rapidly growing company to a beautiful 14 acre hobby farm in the city of St. Joseph. Today our company employs 30+ talented individuals offering a complete selection of services. The rest will be history... |
